Ed Tybus
Ed Tybus died on April 1st. For the past seven years he had lived in retirement with his daughter Andrea. For five decades Ed owned and operated the Rhinecliff Hotel on Grinnell Street, which has been replaced by the more modern and elegant Rhinecliff. When Ed purchased the Rhinecliff Hotel, it was one of the few remaining hotels along the Hudson River. It was a vacation site and a convenient stopover for Amtrak passengers. Ed kept it that way, but he also invited some bands to play there. The Hotel gradually became noted for its music events. Local groups played on some nights, name bands on others. There was Irish music on Sundays, and visits from the Clearwater crew and Pete Seeger. Local lore has it that once Miles Davis, detained by a problem on Amtrak, even gave an impromptu concert. Survived by two sons and his daughter, Ed was 92.
