Bard SummerScape
Bard's SummerScape opens with a gala on Independence Day and continues for seven weeks of opera, music, theater, dance, film, cabaret, circus & performance art. This year's festival revolves around "Prokofiev and His World," with a world premiere of the composer's Romeo & Juliet in its original, uncensored version, choreographed by Mark Morris; a double bill of opera from Polish composer Karol Szymanowski; Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya; George & Ira Gershwin's political satire Of Thee I Sing; and "Cinema Transcontinentale," a festival of 1930s films from America, Russia, and France. Meanwhile, in SummerScape's famous Spiegeltent or "tent of mirrors," enjoy a menu of cabaret, comedy, music & dance—and, from August 1 to 10, the New Albion Music Festival, the voice of West Coast new music for 25 years.
