Music Festival
Bard Music Festival
This year's 20th Annual Bard Music Festival Program focuses on the controversial musical accomplishments and legacy of Richard Wagner. Come to two August weekends of concerts, talks and panel discussions. Programs include overtures, preludes, operatic excerpts, lieder, chamber music and a symphony by Wagner as well as works by contemporaries and rivals. Weekend One: "The Fruits of Ambition"; Weekend Two: "Engineering the Triumph of Wagnerism." Also featured are such talks or panel discussions as "Reality and Image: Wagner in Film," "Warring Aesthetics," "Wagner and the Transformation of European Culture," and "Wagner and the Jewish Question" (moderated by Leon Botstein). All this is part of Bard's expanded arts extravaganza, SummerScape. "Wagner and His World" Festival events August 14–16 and August 21–23 at Bard's acclaimed Fisher Center and Olin Hall. T.
