Bard Music Festival
This year's 19th Annual Bard Music Festival Program gives its due to Sergey Prokofiev, Russia's influential 20th-century composer who first struggled in the shadow of Stravinsky and then under Stalinism. Come to two August weekends of concerts, talks and panel discussions. Programs include chamber and symphonic music (the first, third and revised fourth symphonies), and Peter and the Wolf; a major new production of Romeo & Juliet (opening July 4), several canatatas, as well as important music by Prokofiev's contemporaries. All this is part of Bard's expanded arts extravaganza, SummerScape. "Prokofiev and His World" Festival events August 8–10 and August 15–17 at Bard's acclaimed Fisher Center and Olin Hall.
