Wildcat Epic Bike Race
The first-annual Wildcat Epic bike race. Event center—Historic Huguenot Street, New Paltz, NY
The Wildcat is a 2-day, 100-mile solo event. The course involves two separate looped courses that will start and end each day in the town of New Paltz, NY. The courses will mix fire roads, single track, and pavement to create a riding experience unlike any other on the East Coast.
In August, Historic Huguenot Street will be a buzz of activity with Mountain bikers, support staff and spectators. As they join the over 18,000 people that visit Historic Huguenot Street annually.
Beyond the Mohonk Gate house, west of New Paltz we find the mountains and cliff faces of the Shawangunks, affectionately known as "The Gunks." From every point in New Paltz and the surrounding area The Gunks loom up as a massive backdrop. The Gunk's will challenge riders with an elevation gain of 1900 feet from the start to ridge tops and mixed in with single track on private land access and the area Rail Trails, the stage is set for a tough challenge.
The Wildcat's main event site at Historic Huguenot Street is just steps from our fabulous and funky downtown, which features many locally-owned specialty shops and boutiques. Water Street Market is just a short walk down the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. A variety of dining options, from fine dining to ethnic food to more simple fare, can be found downtown. Framing the village is the Shawangunk Ridge, which draws rock climbers and adventure enthusiasts from around the world. Much of this area is now protected by Mohonk Preserve and the Minnewaska State Park, and SUNY New Paltz rounds out our village and gives New Paltz the optimism and youthful spirit of a vibrant college town.
